TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS, GIVE!
We all want our businesses to grow and prosper. After all, isn’t that why you’re in business in the first place, to grow and prosper? There are many principles that come in to play when building a successful business. One key point is the principle of giving. If you look at most if not all of the wealthiest successful business people you’ll see that they all very generous with their time, money, and talent. For instance, following is just a handful of wealthy people that have donated money to charities.
Bill and Melinda Gates 1.9 billion
Warren Buffett 1.87 billion
George Soros 763 million
Mark Zuckerberg 519 million
The Walton Family (of the WalMart fame) 432 million
Michael and Susan Dell (of Dell computers) 100 million
This is only a partial list, there are hundreds more. But you read about how many of these wealthy business men and woman have contributed to scholarships to help under privileged children, donated to hospitals and medical centers, conducted business forums to help entrepreneurs that are just starting out or need business advice, and have given of themselves in so many categories.
Well how about online business owners? If you want to see your online business really take off, prosper, and be successful, then give! Well I don’t have a lot of capital, so how can I give to charities if I don’t have money? There are so many other categories you can operate the principal of giving. So the question is how?
- Learning – when you learn something new from an online training, webinar, personal study, or some other avenue not only should you apply it as soon as possible, but you should teach someone else. You can do this by publishing a document, recording a video, posting in a blog, or just teaching someone one on one. The point is by giving what you have learned to someone else, you not only help someone else, but you also help yourself by cementing what you’ve learned in your own mind, because you can’t teach something you don’t know yourself.
- Mentoring – provide opportunities to mentor new entrepreneurs who are just learning and can learn from your expertise and experience. This more than just giving a web article or book, this requires getting involved with that person who needs help, guidance, and training.
- Post useful “how to” articles and information on blogs and other social media sites focusing on providing value and help and not on buy my stuff. People are always searching for ways to do things so why not provide your expertise, knowledge, and talent to help someone else?
- Time – donate your time perhaps at a local adult education and training center where you can teach others about how to develop and grow a business like yours. You can teach on marketing, SEO, web design, and the list goes on.
This is only a small list of 4 ideas but I’m sure you can come up with many more. The point though is, that by giving of ourselves whether it’s money, time, talent, expertise, or something else of value, you set yourself up to be successful as well.
The reason why is the Dead Sea which borders Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan is dead is because it has an inlet but no outlet! We don’t want to be like the Dead Sea, just receiving but never giving. Receiving and not giving back will hurt any business.
So remember, in your business, if you give it up, you’ll be able to better live it up and prosper.
We grow by giving
